Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 13, 2026
This policy covers the Grind website, waitlist and beta app. Joining the waitlist does not create an app account. The app is in development; the app sections explain what information is processed when you use it.
1. Who we are
Grind is operated by Andrew Lacelle and Michael Ambra. Our mailing address is 295 Queen Street, Kingston, ON K7K 1B7, Canada. Andrew handles privacy questions at founders@grindapp.fit. Contact us to ask about your information, request a correction or raise a concern.
2. Website and waitlist information
When you request beta updates, we send your email address to Resend to manage the waitlist and deliver a signup confirmation and beta availability emails. We record the version of the signup notice with the confirmation email. We do not add you to unrelated marketing lists. You can withdraw by replying “unsubscribe” to an email or contacting founders@grindapp.fit.
Vercel hosts our website and processes request information, including IP addresses, approximate country and technical metadata, to deliver the site, diagnose errors and limit abusive signup attempts and restrict initial beta signups to Canada and the United States. Website analytics and browser storage are explained below.
3. Information in the app
- Account and profile: email address, login credentials handled by our authentication provider, username, display name and profile settings.
- Optional scoring information: bodyweight and a gender selection used to choose a strength-scoring formula. You can leave these blank or change them in your profile.
- Training: exercises, weights, sets, repetitions, workout times, personal records, templates, splits, challenges and shared-workout participation.
- Community and safety: follows, comments, reactions, invitations, blocks and reports, including any explanation you provide.
- Notifications: a device push token and notification preferences when notifications are enabled.
- Administration: dated policy acceptance records, support correspondence and technical records needed to operate and protect the service.
4. How information is used and seen
We use app information to provide your account, save workouts, calculate scores, support social features, deliver notifications, respond to requests and investigate abuse. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
Grind is a social app. Other members can discover your username and display name. Followers and shared-workout participants can see training information made available through those features; leaderboards can show your name, lifts and scores beyond your followers. Comments and reactions accompany the activities they relate to. Think carefully before sharing information you would not want others to keep or copy.
Bodyweight is optional. New profiles start with the bodyweight privacy setting enabled; existing users can review their setting in Profile. When that setting is enabled, the profile interface hides your exact bodyweight from other members. Grind still uses it to calculate your score. Scores and lifts may allow others to estimate aspects of your strength or bodyweight. Gender and push tokens are not public profile fields.
You can block members and report content in the app. These controls limit interactions and visibility within supported features; they cannot remove copies someone has already saved.
5. Service providers
We use Supabase for app authentication and database services, Resend for waitlist and email delivery, Vercel for website hosting, security and website measurements, and Expo and device-platform notification services to deliver push notifications. Google receives requests when website fonts load. These providers process information for those functions; their infrastructure and support may involve processing outside your province or country. Contact us for information about the providers handling your data.
6. Retention and deletion
We keep account information to operate your account and waitlist information to provide the updates you requested. You can request app account deletion in Settings. This removes the account and associated records covered by our database deletion process. Waitlist removal is separate: reply “unsubscribe” or email us.
Deleting an app account does not automatically erase email delivery records, support correspondence or every provider backup. Resend retains email and log data for 30 days on our current Free plan. This is separate from waitlist contact records, which we maintain for the updates you requested and suppression of unwanted emails. Other security and administrative records can remain where needed for their purpose or applicable legal requirements. We do not currently have a managed database backup available for account recovery. Records should be deleted or anonymized when no longer needed for these purposes. Contact us for the scope and status of a deletion request, including records held separately from your app account.
7. Your choices and requests
You can edit profile information, leave optional scoring fields blank, change notification settings and withdraw waitlist consent. Device settings let you disable push notifications. To request access, correction, deletion or information about our practices, email founders@grindapp.fit. We may ask for information needed to verify that the request concerns your account. We will explain any applicable limits; withdrawing information needed for an app feature may prevent that feature from working.
8. Security
We use authentication, encrypted connections and database access controls to protect information. Access controls and provider settings require ongoing maintenance; no service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your account credentials private and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.
9. Ages 13 and up
Grind is intended for people aged 13 or older, including teens. Do not sign up if you are under 13. If you are a teen, read this notice carefully and ask a parent or guardian or contact us if anything is unclear. Where applicable law requires a parent or guardian's consent, you must obtain it before using Grind. We will address reports of underage accounts and remove information collected contrary to these requirements.
10. Website measurements and local storage
We use Vercel Web Analytics for website traffic and Speed Insights for page performance. These tools are designed to work without analytics cookies; that does not mean the website processes no visitor information. Measurements can include pages visited, referral and device/browser information and performance data. Hosting and security processing is separate from analytics.
Our pages load Google Fonts, which sends Google a normal network request including your IP address. Browser local storage remembers whether you dismissed the website privacy notice. Dismissing that notice is not agreement to receive emails. In the app, local storage also persists your login session and certain preferences.
11. Changes
We update the date and version when this notice changes. For material changes to how we use or share personal information, we will provide appropriate notice and obtain consent where required. Continued use alone does not authorize unrelated new uses of your information.
12. Contact
Contact Andrew and Michael at founders@grindapp.fit with privacy questions or complaints. You may also contact the privacy regulator responsible for your jurisdiction.
